About Us
Richard Eveleigh, MPA
Richard’s journey in the nonprofit world began as a caseworker at a mental health center in Pennsylvania, a role that sparked his passion for making a difference in people's lives. Before moving to the U.S. in 2001, Richard spent four years training as a psychotherapist in the UK, honing his skills at the York Centre for Psychotherapy and the Metanoia Institute in London. His professional path has also taken him into the classroom, where he taught social studies in the UK, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic.
In 2005, Richard relocated to Colorado, his wife’s home state, and continued his dedication to mental health and nonprofit leadership. He worked for a Denver-based mental health advocacy organization before stepping into the role of Executive Director for a youth suicide prevention nonprofit. His leadership journey also extended into the animal welfare sector, reflecting his broad commitment to community well-being.
With a deep-rooted drive to foster equitable and resource-rich communities, Richard brings a wealth of experience in education, mental health, and nonprofit leadership to his consulting work with The Nonprofit Strategy Group.
Richard and his wife spent a few idyllic years living in the mountains near Echo Lake, but he eventually discovered that city life suits him best. Now based in Denver, he loves exploring the city’s vibrant parks, drinking coffee, and indulging his passion for chess. A fan of Denver’s jazz scene, Richard also carries a deep nostalgia for the British rhythm and blues music he grew up with in the 1970s. For Richard, relaxation often means time well spent with his wife, family, and the rich tapestry of Denver’s culture.
Amanda Kearney-Smith, MS
A native of Illinois, Amanda's professional journey has taken her from the Midwest to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and eventually to Colorado, where she now resides in Monument with her husband Jeff, and their furry children, Sasha and Nova.
Amanda's nonprofit career is defined by her transformative leadership in behavioral health. As the founder and Executive Director of the Colorado Mental Wellness Network (CMWN), she was a pioneering advocate for peer support, collaborating with stakeholders to establish statewide standards and develop state-certified training programs for peer professionals.
Prior to her consulting work, Amanda taught Psychology courses and advised undergraduates at Central New Mexico Community College. She also coordinated essential services for individuals experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque, New Mexico, by overseeing funding for homeless service providers at the City of Albuquerque’s Family and Community Services Department. While in New Mexico Amanda served on the board of directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). These experiences cultivated her deep understanding of community needs and the critical role nonprofit organizations play in addressing systemic challenges.
Giving back and acts of service were engrained at an early age and inspired a life-long love for volunteering. She actively contributes to charitable organizations, most recently serving on the Heartland Mental Health Board of Directors as Vice Chair and Treasurer and six years at Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden. Now Amanda serves as a mentor for youth with The Aspen Effect.
As a consultant, Amanda finds profound joy in supporting nonprofit leaders, offering gentle guidance, essential resources, and compassionate support to help them navigate complex challenges and realize their organizational potential.
