About Us

Richard Eveleigh, MPA

Richard immigrated to the USA in 2001. Growing up in an ‘open household’ closely associated with a university in the United Kingdom, Richard was deeply influenced by the many students he got to know from all over the world. Inspired by their perspectives and life experiences, he developed an interest in social justice and equity, which motivated him live and work in other countries. After teaching in Colombia and the Dominican Republic, Richard returned to his hometown to study philosophy, writing a dissertation on liberation theology, poverty, and political violence.

Richard’s first job in the USA was as a case manager at a mental health center near Philadelphia. Motivated by the role that nonprofit organizations play in pursuing more just and equitable communities, Richard built his career in the nonprofit sector. Upon arriving in Colorado in 2005, his wife’s home state, Richard attended the University of Colorado, Denver where he was awarded a master’s degree in public administration. He subsequently led a statewide youth suicide prevention organization as Executive Director and later, a local animal shelter. In 2018, he co-founded The Nonprofit Strategy Group in partnership with Amanda.

Richard and Chris lived in the mountains close to Echo Lake for some years before moving to Denver. Discovering that he is a city person at heart, Richard enjoys playing chess and drinking coffee in his spare time. He is a great fan of Denver’s jazz scene, but as a Brit growing up in the 70s, his go-to music is still rooted in the British rhythm and blues scene.

Amanda Kearney-Smith, MS

Originally from the great state of Illinois, Amanda moved to Colorado in 2008 after a quick stop in New Mexico. Residing in Arvada, Amanda lives with her husband Jeff, and rescue pups, Sasha and Standley.

Prior to consulting, Amanda worked in the nonprofit sector as the founder and Executive Director of the Colorado Mental Wellness Network (CMWN). Working in partnership with other peer organizations, Amanda championed the need for effective peer support in Colorado’s behavioral health system. She worked with other dedicated stakeholders to establish statewide standards for the role of peers and developed state-certified training.

Before moving to Colorado, Amanda taught Psychology at Central New Mexico Community College. She also coordinated essential services for individuals experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque, New Mexico, by overseeing funding for homeless service providers at the City of Albuquerque’s Family and Community Services Department.

Giving back and acts of service were engrained at an early age and inspired a life-long love for volunteering. Amanda donates her time to numerous charitable organizations, and for the last three years has served on the Heartland Mental Health (formerly CHARG) Board of Directors, as Vice Chair and Treasurer. Amanda also volunteers weekly at Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden.

Walking alongside nonprofit leaders providing gentle guidance, resources, and a supportive ear is what Amanda loves most about being a consultant!
